Honeysett sits on the Leura escarpment overlooking the glorious Jamison Valley and Mount Solitary. The garden includes very old azaleas, rhododendrons and weeping cherries, along with junipers, lilly pillys, and weeping birch. We believe the garden was a show garden in the 1940s, however when we bought the property it was in a state of disrepair that has now been rejuvenated in the contemporary style. Even though it is on a slope, it is very easy to traverse from the front to the very back. There are a few easy steps with most of the walks being level.
From the front entry the property merges gradually into the native bushland to the south and includes numerous beautiful garden rooms for relaxation and contemplation. The front garden includes a still pond and a fragrant garden, while on the lower side there is a curved driveway enclosing the Tea Garden.
Moving to the rear of the property through the lilies and ferns, you come across the tortured juniper trees bowing to the centre across the two steps leading down to the Azalea Terrace. There are over 300 azaleas on the property, most of them from the original garden. At the bottom of the walk is the Dew Drop built in the Sorenson manner, where one can enjoy a magnificent view of the Three Sisters and golden stone cliffs. Continue on along the traverses through the Step Terraces and down towards the Native Gardens. Make your way back to Goth’s Terrace then up the Chinese fringe flower Passage and reward yourself with the Vista of Mount Solitary. Depart through the passageway beside the Potting Shed inspecting the Kitchen Garden on your way out.
